This project was inspired by a Guild challenge last year to produce something “black & white with a touch of red”. These towels didn’t get finished for the challenge – but they are ready for the upcoming exhibition and sale – Texere: Exploring Fine Fibre Arts.
Woven in 16/2 cotton, sett at 30 epi, in this eight shaft pattern I played with placing stripes over the different blocks and then decided to do a little “colour & weave” by making some stripes with two or three colours in the warp.
I made several tea towels – in white, grey or black weft, changing the size of blocks in each towel. (I am not a good “production” weaver because I just can’t get myself to do the same thing over and over. It might be a good practice – but I just have too much fun doing “what if” games!
