Overshot is the structure – with a base warp/tabby in 20/2 silk and a pattern weft of my handspun angora/cashmere blend. Sett at 16 epi this drapes softly – and is certainly warm! The design is inspired by Season 6 Episode 4 in JST School of Weaving.

Turned twill on the wire
still taking my inspiration from the JST online guild (janestaffordtextiles.com/online-guild-episodes) I dove into Season 5 and some glorious turned twill towels. This was great fun and produced stunning towels (IMHO) in many patterns and colours all on one warp. Using 8/2 cotton at 20 epi, I picked colours from my own stash and experimented with… Continue reading Turned twill on the wire
Gamping a blanket
Here is a giant gamp – it will be a summer blanket for many picnics I hope! These are a few of the threadings from the Large threadings gamp from JST guild Season 4. Woven in 8/4 cotton at 12 epi. This makes a very soft supple blanket suitable as a baby blanket, though some… Continue reading Gamping a blanket
Cramming and denting plain weave
Lesson 2 in JST’s Season 3 videos, the idea of using various different setts in a single piece of cloth is the idea … and I loved the design of one of the samples. So, with two small cones of fine threads (red 30/3 silk&wool 50/50, dark brown lace weight alplaca) I worked out a… Continue reading Cramming and denting plain weave
Oh My Christmas Tree
Year five for this one … seems not to mind being in the little pot.
handspun silk
This lovely warp is all my handspun silk – samples from a class I took a few years ago from Coleen Nimetz at the Cowichan Hand-To-Hand Workshop event in Duncan, B.C. The white silks include bombyx (wide bands) and eri silk. There is also tussah (brown) and red eri (that lovely red/gold that I have… Continue reading handspun silk
Making negative space – oh so lovely!
I joined Jane Stafford’s Online Guild this year for the first time. I had the opportunity a few years ago to participate in a “live” workshop on Salt Spring Island – what a treat. The JST Online Guild is a wonderful reminder and continues my exploration of this wonderful world of weaving. The episode (S3,E1)… Continue reading Making negative space – oh so lovely!
May flowers and such
Staying at home has pushed me to move some long-term projects forward. I have been interested in weft-faced patterns for a while and have been trying to get my head around creating patterns. Taquete – which I saw somewhere described as “summer & winter with no tabby” – I will update this when I find… Continue reading May flowers and such
Spring Again! With time on my hands I’m back online :-)
‘Tis the time of Covid-19 isolation, staying at home to protect our health services so those who will need help can get it. So, I am working on a bamboo wrap – in blues and purple. The first sampling looks like this: It was a lovely warp. The finished piece was lovely – silky with… Continue reading Spring Again! With time on my hands I’m back online 🙂
Springtime dyeing days
Inspired by unseasonably warm weather last week I decided to get out my dye pots and use up some plant material I had collected – marigolds, onion skins and arbutus bark and savied over the past year or so. I grow marigolds (tagetes varieties) – mine are short, range in colour from yellow to deep… Continue reading Springtime dyeing days
